For over ten years, our Board of Directors and staff members were involved in a multi-million dollar educational and skills-training center in Dallas that worked with over twelve hundred Youth At Risk. By moving from the city to the country, these individuals recognized a need in the Northeast Texas area and set up a non-profit organization for special needs children called "Celebrate the Children". Adopting the philosophy of "Involvement and Concern Causes Change", our mission is to send physically and mentally challenged children to day, weekend and summer outdoor camps. These camps provide a much-needed respite for parents; it is an avenue to build social and recreational skills as well as enhance personal independence for the children. Our current day camps are held just outside of Commerce, TX. We serve children from Northeast Texas cities including Commerce, Greenville, Wolfe City, Sulphur Springs, and Rockwall, just to name a few. The special needs of these children vary from Learning Disabilities, Downs Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Blindness, Deafness, Spina Bifida, and Mental Retardation. The day camps are held on a 100+ acre farm and included activities such as learning to fish, exploring nature hay ride, campfire cookout, story time, horse back riding, camp crafts and introduction to farm animals. The campers also experience presentations of the Hunt County Sheriff's "Beat the Heat Car" as well as the Commerce Fire Department's Fire Engine. |
